Japan – Hiroshima to Miyajima  December 14, 2002

 

 

 

We arrived on the day of their annual cleaning, and all the monks were out with brooms taking the cobwebs down and sweepin g the roofs and gutters clear.  The orange color is their interpretation of a Chinese red.   .

As you can see, we had a good deal of difficulty with the signage..



These are some boots that Bill got a kick out of.  All footwear comes off when going into shrines, and these super-high sole shoes were just about the ugliest we ever saw .

We walked around most of the day, visiting the shrine and the pagoda, the temple and the small shops.  And our lunch was oysters – the local tradition.  And talk about fresh – they come out of the harbor every day..
