Paper making is an ancient art, and these craftspeople put together some great lamps

T

So Kazue, Jim, Marie Bill and I all made paper.  Embellished with flowers and leaves, it arrived back in the states about a month later, after it was all dried.

Kazue is a master of the shamisan, the ancient, three-stringed instrument used in Kabuki Theatre around Japan.  She is incredibly talented, and was willing to show Bill some of the intricacies of the instrument.

Jim and Kazue were unbelievably gracious and hospitable to us on our trip.  Jim drove the entire way up to the onsen without falling off the road, Kazue shared her love of music, and her knowledge of the culture increased our understanding tremendously.  We are eternally indebted to them for their friendship.
